The Plan

Dear Madeira Swim & Tennis Club Members;

As a member of the MSTC steering committee, I would like to give you an update on a proposed club renovation project. Madeira Swim and Tennis Club was built in 1958. It has undergone a number of small upgrades and improvements over the years; however, the building is virtually unchanged from the original structure.

In 2014 a survey was conducted to solicit suggestions from MSTC families. Pool management also recommended improvements that would make our club compliant with current code. The steering committee investigated some possible scenarios and presented the following plan to the MSTC Board:

We propose to keep the existing clubhouse structure while expanding the men’s and women’s locker rooms. This will allow us to double the number of plumbing fixtures (i.e. sinks, showers, toilets, and urinals); add storage area; increase the number of changing areas; update the windows, improve privacy for members; and make the area ADA compliant.

Adjacent to the clubhouse we propose the addition of new outdoor showers, designed primarily for the use of children. This building will also serve to secure the kiddie pool area and to create a defined circular corridor to non-pool club amenities including the tennis courts, basketball court, and ping-pong table.

In addition, a new 1500 square foot building will be built adjacent to the existing clubhouse. This new building will contain the manager’s office, a member’s room and an expanded concession area. The new office will improve safety and oversight of the pool deck and club admittance. The concession area, similar to other private swim and tennis club facilities, will allow us to substantially expand and improve menu offerings, including a deep fryer and grill. It will allow direct delivery of goods and items from the parking lot and improve service for our members.

To make this design possible, a new 9000 square foot roof will connect the 2 separate buildings. This roof will also serve to create a protected member’s entry pavilion, a covered picnic area adjacent to the concession area, and a sunshade for the kiddie pool area. To achieve this, a majority of the upper terrace will need to be replaced. The retaining wall that is in need of replacement will be removed in favor of a continuous stairway that will integrate and link the lower main pool area. New/upgraded lighting and sound system will also be included in the design.

Significant landscape improvements will be added including screening, fencing, trees and other plants and vegetation. A new ADA compliant ramp, benches, counters, tables and loungers will be added as well.

Our “new” Madeira Swim and Tennis Club will reduce energy consumption, improve amenities to make our club commensurate with similar private swim and tennis clubs in our area; increase accessibility for members with disabilities; and be a place where our community can continue to build summer memories together for many years to come.
